“As a listener I love all the styles that rock music encompasses (you’ll find me listening to anything from the Beatles to The Fall of Troy). But as a musician I’ve never been very technical, and you can definitely see that in Arkhaven. One of the easiest ways to kill a song for me is to over-complicate things. Especially when you’re piecing together songs with three guitarists, you need to give instruments room to breathe. If playing a riff with three notes or even playing no riff at all is what the song needs, then that’s what I’ll do. I enjoy filling the role as a rhythm guitarist and playing the baritone gives me the opportunity to blend more with the beat of the drums or the thumping of the bass rather than sitting out front with the leads.
Outside of Arkhaven I just like finding new music, especially if it’s local. Some of my favorite local guys are Have Mercy, The Old Line, and Crack the Sky. I wish I could name them all, but there are so many killer bands playing around Baltimore (and many that made it big outside the state) it would take an entire website dedicated to just listing them. When I’m not listening to music you’ll find me messing around with computers, exploring Maryland, or sitting in Fells Point trying out some badass craft beers.”
